Book Blogger Confessions: Reading Challenges

The lowdown:
"Book Blogger Confessions is a meme that posts the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, where book bloggers "confess" and vent about topics that are unique to us. Feel free to share, vent and offer solutions. Just keep it respectful - no bashing authors or other bloggers! If you want to participate just grab our button and include it in your post with a link to either Midnyte Reader or For What It's Worth."

Question: Reading challenges: Do you host or join in any? What is your success rate on completing them? Do they keep your reading goals on track, put too many restrictions/pressure on you?  What do you think makes for a successful reading challenge?

Since I am relatively new to blogging, I am doing a slew of reading challenges. Though I have not been doing Love.Life.Read for very long, I have been reading blogs for so many years that I just wanted to jump into the reading challenges this year. I admit, it is much more work than I thought to keep them up-to-date and I am sorely behind on doing it at this point. With it already May, we are in our second quarter that I just to figure out where I am this moment.

Most of the ones I selected fit with what I naturally read but I did pick a few to make me grow. For instance, I am not as strong as reading Fairy Tales, so I selected one of the Fairy Tale challenges as inspiration for me to delve into a new subgenre for me.

Though I have never done the book blogger reading challenges, I have participated in GoodReads Reading Challenge and I have finished those each time. I am well on my way of finishing this year's GR Challenge too. :) I like seeing my progress on it but I cannot say that it spurs me to read faster.

What do you think? Do you like reading challenges? Do they encourage or frustrate you?

  1. They don't work for me but I know a lot of people are goal oriented or at least feel motivated when reading is a group thing (like a challenge or read-a-long)

I stick with the Goodreads challenge and put it at a low # then increase it as I go. Totally cheating! lol

  2. I do the Goodreads reading challenege - less to challenge myself and more just as a fun way to track how many books I am reading. I read every chance I get so I don't feel like I really need a challenge to get me to read more. I have been trying to challenge myself to read more classics this year but at the end of the day, life is short and I would rather read what I want to read and not feel like I need to put forth effort while enjoying my favorite hobby : )

    1. I read as often as I can too, which some days is not enough. :-) I felt compelled to do a few of the challenges this year so I might be more enticed to read outside of my comfort zone.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Happy Reading!
