My Interview with Ophelia!

I am thrilled to be hosting Ms. London here at Love. Life. Read today! I am giddy with delight!! Welcome!!

1) Your hero, Charlie in Falling for Her Solider feels like any guy you could meet off the street as is, Ellie, Are they inspired by anyone in real life?

OL: That’s a great question! I take inspiration from a lot of places. With Charlie, he was in the two previous Perfect Kisses novels, so I’ve been honing his character for a while. In the first two books, he was a serial dater and pretty far-removed from being ready for a relationship (or a book of his own!), especially in the first book of the series. But in the second book, I started peppering in little hints that Charlie’s dating preferences might be changing. In my personal life, I’ve dated players and nice guys and not-so-nice guys, so I was able to pull some of his character traits from a lot of men I know. For me, everything is fodder. :-) When it comes to looks, I see Jenson Ackles….cuz he’s just so hot! Ellie was brand new to me. And it was fun bringing a new face into the series. She’s a bit of my sister and a bit of a good friend who used to dance ballet. Ellie has been one of my favorite heroines.

2) The three loosely connected stories in the Perfect Kisses series feature three guys that seemingly, on the surface, are very different from each other. How did come to develop their friendship?

OL: Another awesome question! In the first book, Jack (the hero) knew Charlie (the heroine’s brother) fifteen years before—both families spent a summer at the same beach resort. So that is their connection. Towards the end of book one, I brought in Rick (the hero of book two). He wasn’t as involved with the two other guys (in fact, Jack didn’t like Rick at all in book one!). In book two, because Rick (the hero) was a newspaper man—which isn’t necessarily a super sexy occupation—I wanted to showcase his machoness. So I set it up that he and Jack and Charlie play in a morning hockey league together. And what’s hotter than hockey? That tradition carried over into the third story. I only have a few scenes of those three guys together in the locker room, but those were always fun to write. I love male-bonding.

3) Can you tell us about any of your upcoming projects?

OL: Sure! I’ve got a new series through Bliss that I’m still daydreaming about—although I guess I better stop dreaming and get to work! I’m also working on a companion novel to Definitely, Maybe in Love, the new adult novel I released last year. It’s a retell of Pride & Prejudice. The new one is a modern retell of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Just a hint: the guy is so hot!

4) What is your ideal writing environment like?

OL: Most of the time, I write at home. On my couch. On the middle cushion. The TV is usually off. Or sometimes I’ll put reruns of The Big Bang Theory on and I’ll zone out for a while then write during commercials.

5) Where would you go on your dream vacation?

OL: The beach is where I wish I was most of the time. But lately, I’ve been really wanting to take a trip to England and the British Isles. I studied for a semester in London during grad school and I’ve been dying to go back. I keep planning trips then they always fall through. Maybe if there’s a writers conference there, I can make it a business trip too. And of course, there’s always the chance that I’ll run into my very own Mr. Darcy!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions Ms. London! I really appreciate your thoughtful answers and the time you took answering them. :-)

My Thoughts on Falling for Her Soldier:

Ella has sworn off men for a year, having run through a string of choosing the wrong guy time after time. When Charlie's emails become her lifeline to her brother's condition after being injured overseas while serving in the military she finds herself falling for him.

Charlie is more commonly known as Hunter and has a reputation of a player--the last thing that Ella wants in a guy. But he wants to put that reputation behind him because he wants a relationship with Ella. Ella's brother Sam does not want her to date him, even with Charlie saving his life. How can he convince Sam, let alone Ella, that this is truly what he wants in his life now?

This is my second book by Ms. London, even though this is the third in the Perfect Kisses series. Even with picking it up third in the series, I was not lost or confused. The story pulled me right in from page one and it has a great flow to it. I really enjoyed both the main characters--they seem like such real people that I would love to hang out with them and have a beer with them after work one day.

Last Impression:

Having not read the other two in this series, I know what I will be doing soon--going back and reading the other two!

About Ophelia:

Ophelia London was born and raised among the redwood trees in beautiful northern California. Once she was fully educated, she decided to settle in Florida, but her car broke down in Texas and she's lived in Dallas ever since. A cupcake and treadmill aficionado (obviously those things are connected), she spends her time watching arthouse movies and impossibly trashy TV, while living vicariously through the characters in the books she writes.

Ophelia is the author of DEFINITELY, MAYBE IN LOVE, ABBY ROAD, and the Perfect Kisses series including: PLAYING AT LOVE, SPEAKING OF LOVE, and FALLING FOR HER SOLDIER (Jan 2014).

But don't call when The Vampire Diaries is on.
