I am sure we all have that experience when reading a book where we have either had longed to join the characters to live in their world or in the case of today's topic--wanted to stay far far away. In a way, this reminds me a bit of the movie Pleasantville with Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon. In this movie, the characters are transported into alternative world. Have you seen it?
So I had to think, what would make me NOT want to visit the characters in books? So things like an oppressive society, having things I easily take for granted no longer available to me--water, the air I breathe on a daily basis, a relatively stable climate, or just plan scary worlds would easily top my list. With those thoughts in mind, I prepared my list.
Without being in any specific order, here are the books I would NOT want to step into (click on the titles to add them to GoodReads or to learn more about them):
