CYBILS--Submit to be a Judge Today!

I am beyond thrilled to be a CYBILS Organizer this year! The last two years, I have had the pleasure of serving as as a Nonfiction judge and this year I am stepping up to be the YA Nonfiction Category Organizer.

About CYBILS:

The Cybils Awards aims to recognize the children’s and young adult authors and illustrators whose books combine the highest literary merit and popular appeal. If some la-di-dah awards can be compared to brussels sprouts, and other, more populist ones to gummy bears, we’re thinking more like organic chicken nuggets. We’re yummy and nutritious.

The Categories:

  • Book Apps
  • Easy Readers / Early Chapter Books
  • Fiction Picture Books
  • Graphic Novels
  • Middle Grade Fiction
  • Nonfiction Elementary / Middle Grade
  • Nonfiction YA
  • Poetry
  • Speculative Fiction Elementary / Middle Grade
  • Speculative Fiction YA
  • YA Fiction
As you can see, we cover the breadth in the materials being published for Children's and Young Adult literature.  Do you have a passion for one or more these categories? Then YOU should apply to be a CYBILS judge!

Why YOU Should Do It:

I have such a great time the last two years serving as a judge. Being a librarian, I am constantly on the lookout for great materials to have on hand for my library users. With CYBILS awards, it is another avenue I know I can look at for suggestions on materials in each of the categories.

If you are:
  • passionate about books that would fall within the above categories,
  • want to share that passion with other like-minded individuals,
  • are able to vocalize your opinions (while respecting opinions of others) and
  • are willing to read, read and read,
then CYBILS might be a great fit for you.

How to Apply:

Go to CYBILS and take a look around. If you decide it is something you want to take part in, go to our application to submit yours today! We want you to pick the categories you are most interested in judging and show off your knowledge to us!

Come back to NOMINATE your favorite book!

Whether you will be a judge or not, you can still participate by nominating your favorite in each of our categories. Come back October 1 to October 15 to nominate your favorites at the CYBILS website
