Top Ten Heroines: a Difficult List to Name

brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish

Heroines

What makes a great heroine? Perhaps someone who sacrifices themselves for the greater good or someone who stands up for their beliefs in face of opposition? Someone who make a fantastic role model for those still finding themselves?

It took me a bit to really decide on a list. Some were quite easy and other spots I struggled with to fill as nothing was popping into my head. Most of these I have read this past year, if not the last two years.

Diana from the All Souls Trilogy

Hands down one of my most favorite series and characters, Diana is the epitome of a heroine in my opinion. I am so happy this has been picked up by BBC to made into a television series.

Tris from Divergent series

I know so many people did not appreciate the way the series ended, but regardless of that, you cannot deny that Tris is a heroine.

Ismae from Grave Mercy

Words can barely describe how much I loved this book. So much so, I have been nervous on reading the rest of the series. It is that anticipation I mentioned in my last Top Ten post

June from Legend series

Another one I read quite some time ago, June is such a strong character. After revelations are revealed about how she lost her brother and family, she could have crumbled, but she did not.

Kestrel from The Winner's Curse

This is one I just finished up. Kestrel was someone I was not sure what to think but after the ending, I have a feeling she is going to more than live up to a heroine status.

Anna Whitt from the Sweet trilogy

Now this one might surprise others, but I do feel like Anna is a heroine. She stands up for something she believes, despite the option she felt from all sides. She is different, but it is okay with her.

Tally from the Uglies quartet

One of the first science fiction books I read, Tally was one of characters that has stayed with me over the years. This is the exception to reading in the last couple years--this is one I read at my first professional library job (sometime in 2007/2008).

Katy from Lux series

Again, perhaps another interesting choice to some. I appreciate the growth that Katy does over the entire Lux series.

Princess Lia from The Kiss of Deception

Princess Lia grew on me as I read The Kiss of Deception. I am looking forward to the second in the series after that cliffhanger of an ending.

So that is my list (as it stands today). What made your list? I am looking forward to seeing what heroines you have on your list, so leave me a link so I can come visit this week.

  3. I'm really wanting to read Grave Mercy so I am really excited to hear that Ismae is so likable. (Here's to hoping the next books are as good - I'm sure that'll make me even more excited for them.)
